We live in a time of change where the environment is in focus. The textile industry is one of the environment's biggest culprits, which is why we want to take our responsibility and contribute to a climate-positive industry by setting good examples. No one can do everything themselves but we believe in it educating by acting. Moonan & Ponsbach’s ambition is to drive a sustainable chain from production, working conditions, final delivery and giving back.
Moonan & Ponsbach's ambition is to drive a sustainable chain from the goats that graze, to production, working conditions, final delivery and to give back resources. We believe in setting good examples and spreading knowledge and experience. You've probably heard "Nobody can do everything but everyone can do something" - and we want to do more than anything, we want to do everything we can.
What we do
Plastic is one of our biggest environmental culprits and a simple material to exclude in its operations. Therefore, we obviously have zero-plastic tolerance throughout the brand.
Associated storage bags
Our associated fabric bags that you will store your cashmere in are made from recycled, eco-certified and uncoloured cotton.
The box in which you get your cashmere is made from recycled cardboard. It is then also recyclable.
Boat delivery 2021
In 2021, all Moonan and Ponsbach's products will be shipped by boat. Which is a more environmentally friendly alternative than air freight. A study shows that boat freight emits 4000% less CO2 compared to air freight.
All goats that contribute to Moonan & Ponsbach's products have roamed freely in the mountains and have not been subjected to any mental or physical strain.
Quality over quantity
All products in the range are hand-sewn, which means that no environmentally hazardous industrial machines are required. If you buy a hand-sewn work, it results in a sustainable business as the product is made to last a long time. A personal craft is like a hand-painted painting, made to last forever, while a factory-made shawl is like a purchased copy that is interchangeable. Textile production and its hazardous factories account for 1.2 trillion tonnes of CO2 emissions worldwide.
Production is run by small business owners in Nepal who make a living from their family business. If you shop at Moonan & Ponsbach, you also contribute to the local Nepalese economy by supporting small businesses. Their cashmere trade has provided work for several people in the village who would otherwise have had difficulty making a living. All our suppliers are also certified as Chyangra Pashmina which ensures safe working conditions.
More environmentally friendly alternative to final delivery
Today, all products from Kalmar in Sweden are shipped. Kalmar is located in Sweden and therefore does not need to be transported far to end consumers in Sweden. We work actively to find environmentally friendly deliveries to end consumers and hope to be able to offer shipping alternatives that are completely free of CO2 emissions.
Our suppliers are certified as Chyangra Pashmina, which the Nepalese government appoints to companies that live up to Nepalese quality of their products. The certification also ensures safe working conditions. The certification is well known in over 40 countries and is a quality assurance.
All colored cashmere has been treated by Huntsman Innovative Textile Chemicals. Huntsman is a leader in durability for bleaching and dyeing in the textile industry.
Quality assured yarn
All cashmere yarn that has been used is certified by SGS. They are located in Switzerland and their task is to inspect and verify, test against health, safety and prescriptive standards. Above all, ensure that the yarn complies with European requirements and regulations.
We have chosen the country of Nepal as a supplier for many reasons. Of course one of them when we ran into the entrepreneurs themselves and were inspired by their history and challenges. Additional factors such as Nepal being one of Southeast Asia's poorest countries despite being located between two of the world's largest economies, India and China. More than half of everyone in the country feeds on money from relatives who support the families from other countries, this as unemployment is high and working conditions are low. Illiteracy is one of the reasons why children stop going to school, but also, unfortunately, child labor. Earthquakes and political instability are the reasons why conditions look the way they do.
There is hope - and we can help! The country needs to get back on its feet and, above all, bring home migrants who work in poor conditions abroad. It requires long-term and lasting investment in sectors such as tourism and the export market. By investing in Nepalese production and small businesses - you contribute to the country's exports. A result of this will in the long run be more children in school, where they belong and the return of migrants, above all a more stable economy.
Give back resources
We believe that education and knowledge give people tools and freedom to be able to fulfill their dreams and goals, from starting a business to driving sustainable development forward. Therefore, our heart's desire is to open a school in Nepal, to give back resources to the country and the people. In 2020, we will begin the process and update continuously.
